My old English teacher had nominated me for the competition, so when I found out I was participating, I was not adequately prepared. Fortunately, when the teacher revealed the topics, I realized that I had already given some thought to them. The topics were either about homework or waste management, and we would be debating on one of these topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Based on my intuition, I believed that the homework topic had been used too many times, so I thought they would pick the waste management topic instead. However, I became preoccupied with homework and completely forgot about the competition until the day it was being conducted. When I arrived at the venue, I sat and waited for almost half the period before they formed the pairs. I was paired with a student from the tenth grade who also had no partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The higher grade students debated first, discussing the benefits of technology for education, but the period ended before they could finish. The next day, a separate selection was held for only the 9th grade students, and as I had predicted, the topic was about the effectiveness of recycling in reducing overall garbage output. The participants were divided into two teams, one for and one against.
